Big Idea: Final Project

Since the difficulty of my other idea was extremely difficult, and would have taken ages to complete, I decided to do this colored pencil of a butterfly instead. I feel as if it represents my free spirit, and that I want to go far in life no matter where it takes me. Thanks Mrs. Carr, It's been a great year!

Final Project: Pointillism Self-Portrait

For my final project, I am going to do a mixed media, mostly acrylic self-portrait of myself using pointillism. I choose this project specifically because I feel as if people don't always see me for who I think I really am. Likewise, in this portrait when up close I will look pixilized, but when far away everything will be clear and visible. I want this to envoke the thought in the minds of my peers that maybe I'm not who they think I am, and that I'm really a beautiful person on the inside. Plus, I want them to not only question me, but to question themselves; are they really who they think they are?

This is the image I will be using, except that it will be pixilized using photoshop. Also, to tie in the theme of nature, I will be adding in some flowers and possibly a tree into the areas where it is lilac. Here are some examples of the flowers and trees I will be incoporating.

Artist Inspiration: Eric Daigh & Chuck Close

Eric Daigh, a push-pin artist, uses a technique called pointillism to create beautiful portraits of his friends and family. This goes along with my big idea of perception on reality, and how things aren't always as they seem. With the three primary colors, he creates beautiful skin tones which is unheard of.

Also, Chuck Close is another artist that relates to my big idea. He also uses a different type pointillism using shapes to skew the lines of reality and altered reality. Most of his paintings using pointillism are in oil paint.

Word of the Day: Flowers

Flowers are known for their elegance, and their representation of youth. They relate to my big idea because they evoke a more child-like, and simpler state of mind which I'm trying to depict in my overall project.

Word of the Day: Dreams

Dreams are mystical, and beautiful. They have a euphoric value that is on the border-line of reality.
Also, they help myself, and many other people better understand their waking lifes in an unconscense state of mind. I want to somehow add a dream-like state of being into my next project, but I'm not exactly sure how I'm going to encorporate something that is so hard to depict using images.

Word of the Day: Altered Reality

Since it was extremely difficult to find images of altered reality, these where the only two photographs that I could find that I thought where powerful enough to have an altered state of mind quality. I want to work in some type of altered reality type of motif into my project to give it a sense of wonder, and amazement.
